I have a Viper 33cc. How do I check the oil in the Gearbox? I just got it and I want to make sure it has enough oil. '
Also. if I change it, is there a drain hole/bolt and how much oil do I put in (don't have manual)
Big Thanks...

The draining/filling nut is the big gold bolt at the top of the gear box, then fill it with some full synthetic 75-90W gear oil ..should cost $5-6

Actually 85W-90 is recomended. and 180cc of it which will just about fill it up.

Thanks, It wasn't full at all. When I opened the fill nut could not see any oil... It might have oil in it, because even when you have the 180cc of oil in it, you can't really see it unless you rotate the gears When using regular gear oil, 85-90W is the recomendation, but when using full synthetic, the advantage is to use something a little lighter to get a little more power, because the motor has to power those heavy gear submerged in thick oil, which results in loss of torque. So using a gear oil that is more runny and slick will allow you to gain a little more torque, acceleration and top speed. I was told this by Billy @ Viza in 2003.

do these gear boxes typically leak through the oil seals? I have two venoms and they both leak oil after riding for a while, I assume it is coming from the gear box. I haven't taken it apart yet to check it out.

If you want something thinner, Use 10W-40. Honda uses that in their transmissions. But on such a small application, the 85W-90 vs. 75w-90 difference would be so small you could not notice. I Remember along time ago a dude named Scott who got me started on scooters always ran pennzoil full synthetic 10W-30 in his gearbox. Never had a problem. But I'd use what Viza recomends, which is 85w-90 gear oil.
As to the oil leak, if the gearbox gasket has never been replaced, it's probably time. You could always make sure the bolts on the gearbox are nice and snug too.

Also about leaks is it could be the nylon sealing ring at the top of the gear box, because they loosen up and oil does leak through for some reason, which is why as I remember I got a brass ring with rubber around it at the hardware store and that helped a lot.
